This project won a Silver ADDY for Packaging Design at the 2022 American Advertising Awards in Birmingham, AL

For this packaging series project, I wanted to create packaging for s’mores components that also brings attention to the sobering wildfire situation out west. I created a brand called “Leave No Trace - Camping Goods” for consistency. For each box, I chose a warm-toned color and a famous wildfire in a national park to base my illustrations on.

For the graham cracker box, I chose red, and I created illustrations of the Giant Sequoia trees in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks during the 2021 KNP Complex Fire.

For the chocolate bar, I chose orange, and I centered the packaging around the 2020 Cameron Peak Fire in Rocky Mountain National Park. It was the largest wildfire in Colorado’s history.

For the marshmallow box, I chose yellow and centered it on the Yellowstone Fire of 1988 and lodgepole pines. While this fire is incredibly controversial, the event certainly changed how many national parks handle wildfires today.

The theme of seeds and tree species’ unique relationships with fire was a theme I really loved leaning into with this project. All of the parks' ecosystems discussed in my packaging have trees that need fire's heat for their cones to release seeds. With destruction eventually comes new life. The wildfire issue is a complex, multifaceted one, and I loved learning more about it through the creative decisions in my conceptual packaging.
